On behalf of the Government of Malaysia and the National Disaster Management Authority, the INSARAG Secretariat is pleased to invite your institution to participate in the INSARAG Asia – Pacific Regional Earthquake Response Exercise (ERE) 2017 and your INSARAG A-P focal points to the Asia Pacific Regional Meeting 2017. These consecutive events will be held in Putrajaya, Malaysia, from 11 to 13 September (Regional ERE) and from 14 to 15 September (A-P Regional Meeting) respectively.
As part of the disaster response preparedness activities of INSARAG, the EREs are conducted primarily as a means to increase awareness of INSARAG disaster response methodologies amongst national and local authorities in the host country, as endorsed by the INSARAG Steering Group. It is further recommended that such regional exercises incorporate the management components of international organisations to ensure an integrated and coordinated response in support of host country actors. The primary participants in these ERE are USAR skeleton Teams and EMTs. You will find attached the provisional agenda of the exercise.
With regards to the Regional Meetings, these are a gathering of international USAR policy makers, team leaders, and governmental representatives, among others to exchange information about technical and political USAR issues in the INSARAG context. The participants will discuss best practices and possible improvements in areas of interest. The primary participants in these meetings are expected to be the INSARAG Focal points and Heads of Departments in National Governments who are responsible for disaster management. Participants of the ERE are requested to arrive on 10 September 2017 whereas the attendees of the Regional Meeting only are requested to arrive on 13 September 2017. Participants are requested to organize their travel arrangements in order to be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The host will arrange transport to and from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Please note that the participants are requested to cover the costs of their own participation in this meeting including the costs of travel to and from the Malaysia. Participants are responsible to obtain their visas to enter into Malaysia. It is strongly recommended that delegates consult the respective Malaysian Embassies or High Commissions in their home country to inquire the details of Visa arrangements. To apply for a Malaysian Visa, the applicant must have a valid passport for at least six (6) months prior to the date of entry.
Participants are requested to submit the Registration Form along with a copy of personal details page of international passport via e-mail to simex2017@nadma.gov.my and a copy to INSARAG Secretariat at insarag@un.org for attendance confirmation no later than 11 August 2017 (Friday).
