Dear INSARAG Community,

We are pleased to announce the launch of a Global Webinar Series on “Environment and Emergencies in the face of COVID-19”. Please see the attached flyer for detailed information.

The series will cover different aspects of readiness for and response to the environmental dimensions of emergencies in a global pandemic context (from coordination and assessments to waste management, re-starting industry and the sustainability of humanitarian action, among others).

It will consist of six webinars running from July to December, with the first webinar taking place on Wednesday 29th July at 14:00-15:30 (UTC+2).

As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has only been the latest, very powerful wake-up call on the links between environment and emergencies. Through our partnership with UNEP, we are uniquely positioned to ensure that a key element of emergency response remains the rapid identification and mitigation of environmental risks - a necessity that is only becoming more and more apparent in the face of the climate emergency.

COVID-19 has pushed us all to rethink the way we operate at multiple levels while also offering unprecedented opportunities for virtual engagement to overcome movement restrictions. It is in this spirit that we are launching this initiative and I would like to encourage you all to take this as a unique chance for you to strengthen your knowledge and operational readiness in this area to ensure we can all effectively support affected countries and populations.

I would also like to request your support in disseminating this through your networks, including at the field level. The webinar series is open to all. We welcome participation from OCHA and UNEP colleagues, other UN and international organizations, governments, regional organizations, NGOs, the private sector, academia, etc.

Please register here (you only need to register once for all webinars):

Looking forward to seeing you for the first webinar.
